One of the best spots to catch Tarpon in the U.S. is in the Florida Keys.  There are residential and juvenile tarpon there all year long but the months of May - July are the prime times.  A lot of prime spots like area bridges do not even require a boat,  but it sure helps when the 100 lb plus tarpon hits your bait,  because you will probably have to chase him.  We have hooked many tarpon over 100 lbs from shore by the bridges and have yet to land one  (I thinks its the tarpon 23 and us 0 right now).  Night time fishing seems to be best for tarpon around bridges that have light shining on the water that attract bait fish like mullet and pilchards.  If you have a castnet its very easy to catch these mullet and pilchards by the bridges at night as they are the prime baits along with crabs which you can get at the local bait shops. Its not uncommon to see hundreds of tarpon crashing at the mullet at the bridges at night.  Just cast your bait out with just a hook (free lining) and hold on.  Its best to check tides before you go because its tough to fish the bridges when the tide is ripping thru the bridges.  Check for  high tide and low tide times and fish around an hour before and after as the tide slows as its changing from high to low and visa versa (slack tides).  Check pics below to see all the tarpon that can school together and see the results of just dangling a bait over them does  Smiley

I wish I had video of them at night,  its incredible.  The bridge we fish at has a big street light on a timer and it goes off every 20 minutes and when it goes off its like war.  There are literally 100's of 100 lb tarpon jumping every where after the mullet.  The mullet are so spooked they are jumping on shore trying to get away.  I have never seen anything like it.  Then the lights go back on they all stop and the mullet swim around free and then the lights go out and its like war again.

Do they have teeth?,  I hope not.  Some great photos,  had to be perfect timing with the camera for those pictures.

They have sandpaper like teeth and they did a little damage to my hand.  I'm working on putting the video on here of them.
